How Low Can You Go - Part 5

If you've been reading this series, you know its about self-esteem, in particular women and their self-esteem (mine, that is). Well, my last installment, I thought it covered a different angle. This is dedicated to men.

You may ask, "Since when do men have self esteem issues?" In my observations from the first day, as well as women. The difference, I've found, is that men are taught to pretend you are stronger from an early age. Correct me if I'm wrong, but men are conditioned teens and twenties to be our knight in shining armor, have courage, and an ego larger than life. As women, we feed in their error until they get married. Then, over time, things change.

I have reconnected with some people from high school and college, and they all have self esteem issues. They were safe and seemed sure of who they were as teenagers. Of course, I was not. Now, as you become more confident than I am, I see the lack of confidence and insecurity in those around me. The men I have admired the young man feels unworthy of healthy relationships, like their lives are meaningless, they are not interesting, or are trapped in a loveless relationship. Sound familiar?

It seems we all have the same problems - feeling inadequate because your partner told us that he did or society. So my advice for men - look in the mirror and say, "I'm pretty damn interesting!" Has been led to believe the lies all these years you're not alone up to par. Now is the time to believe in the truth. If I can look in the mirror and tell myself I'm beautiful and sexy, then it may be interesting and beautiful!
