Cancer - Symptoms, Causes and Treatment

Cancer is one of the most stigmatized words in the English language. It covers a wide variety of diseases, however, as knowledge of its existence has grown steadily, knowing exactly what that is reduced, limited to the realm of myth and rumor that they are so harmful to facts.
Cancer, in short, are malignant tumors that are not regulated in the growth and spread of cells and the invasion of neighboring tissues. The word "evil" is important here. Not all tumors are cancerous, it is only that multiply and spread rapidly to be considered as such.
The cancer is usually detected by certain signs and symptoms depending on the type and location of cancer and various screening tests are becoming increasingly frequent as the threat of cancer increases.
Although there are many known causes of cancer - such as smoking, infections, diet and lack of exercise - the cancer can be inherited. It is therefore very important to be aware of your family's medical history to be hyper-aware of the signs and symptoms that may have developed similar problems.
Symptoms
There are no symptoms of cancer that are universally true for all types or symptoms identified specifically allocated to cancer and most can be attributed to other diseases. It is therefore not uncommon for someone to be diagnosed with cancer after being treated for something else to which the first symptoms were wrongly attributed.
Symptoms tend to occur in areas where cancer is present. For example, the presence of lung cancer may be indicated by a severe cough, difficulty swallowing and pneumonia, cancer of the colon, as it can cause anal bleeding. Other symptoms include lumps and bumps, especially easily felt in the breasts and testicles, and localized pain and prolonged.
Causes
The causes of various forms of cancer are widely debated. This is due to the fact that any one type of cancer in an individual may have a multitude of possible causes, arising from different events or habits in the life of a person.
For example, smoking and using other snuff products have been known to be a major contributor to the risk of developing lung cancer. Although the longer you smoke for, the more likely of getting cancer, smoking at any stage of life increases the risk of developing it at some point later in life. The same applies to passive smoking - inhaling the smoke from another person, for example - although the risks are less than first hand smoke.
Other factors identified include alcohol, although less so than smoking, obesity and exercise, preventing the first and get plenty of the latter is preferable, and radiation, where the cells mutate after being exposed to it and then go to multiply and invade nearby tissue of a cancerous form. Overexposure to sun is a way of getting cancer from radiation, ultraviolet rays which cause a form of cancer known as melanoma and other skin malignancies.
As mentioned above, cancer can be inherited, although inherited cancer statistics are low, between three and ten percent of all cancers.
Treatment
Most cancers are primarily treated by surgery. This is usually all that is required to complete tumor mass and, in some circumstances, the lymph nodes in the area, are removed to prevent its spread. Surgery is also used in the biopsies to determine the stage when the cancer has progressed.
Chemotherapy has also proved an effective method to combat cancer and works for the patient being subjected to a treatment regimen of drugs that target cells are rapidly dividing and destroying them. Although cancer is one such cell type, there are others that are found naturally in the body that are also targeted, leading to several side effects, the best known of which is alopecia, more commonly known as hair loss .
Radiation therapy is often used in combination with one or both of the above and involves the use of ionizing radiation to kill malignant cells. Although often used along with surgery or chemotherapy, in some cases, particularly with tumors of the bone or brain, is more practical to be used alone to treat patients.
Cancer is one of the most destructive and widespread diseases in the world today and is expected to worsen as our population ages, thanks to improved medical techniques and lifestyle changes in line with current trends. For many years scientists have been working on a cure for cancer and, although many treatments have been developed and improved, the general solution of this most inspiring of fear of disease is still some way off. Hopefully it's just a matter of time.
